Fourteen year old Bresha Meadows from Ohio, has been hailed as a hero by her family, after she allegedly shot her 41-year-old father Johnathan in the head just before 4am on July 28.
Bresha has been charged with aggravated murder while police continue to look into into what led up to the shooting that caused teen girl to kill her father.
However witnesses say Meadows shot and killed her dad with his own gun, the same gun he allegedly used to regularly threaten the family.
Bresha’s mother Brandi admits that she was completely terrified of her husband – whom she had been married to for 18 years - and felt powerless to act against him for fear of recrimination. But in 2011 she did file for a protective order to keep him away from herself and her children; only to withdraw the order later.
Sheri Latessa, one of Bresha’s aunts, told WKBN that after the shooting the girl turned to her mother and said: ‘Now mommy, you’re free.’
Speaking through tears, she said: 'I am so sorry she had to go through this. She is my hero. She helped me; she helped all of us so we could have a better life.'
Ian Friedman the attorney for the Meadows family, told media outlets that Bresha was born into an abusive home and often witnessed her mother being physically assaulted at the hands of her father.
He added that Bresha’s father, Johnathan Meadows was an alcoholic and used his firearm to keep those living in the house afraid of him.
