According to Nana Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, President John Dramani Mahama and the New Democratic Congress government are embarrassed to admit that Ghana's power crisis is still persistent.
Mr. Akufo-Addo tweeted, “I would like to assure you all that we will end ‘dumsor’ by resolving the financial problems facing our utilities”.
According to Nana Akufo Addo, his government will fix the power crisis if he wins the elections.
The dumsor crisis has persisted over the past decade in Ghana, becoming particularly rampant during the tenure of the NDC government. Speaking on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration in Accra Wednesday, July 6, Mr Mahama said his government would not declare load shedding as the current energy situation was as a result of sabotage in Nigeria as far as the supply of crude oil was concerned.
But in a series of tweets on Monday, August 8, Mr Akufo-Addo said financial difficulties were the cause of dumsor.
There was a resurgence of power outages in some parts of the country in the past few weeks, but the situation appears to have normalised.
