4 armed robbers have narrowly escaped death in a botched robbery attempt in the Northern Region.
Narrating the incident to Accra-based radio station Ultimate FM, the Assembly Member for the Wulugu Electoral Area Madam Meimunatu Sandoo said the attempted robbery occurred on Monday at about 8:pm when the robbers wielding weapons attacked a mobile money vendor.
According to her, the vendors told the robbers they had no monies with them.
She said the suspected robbers got angry by the response and started firing sporadically and also attempted to stab one of the vendors with a knife.
Five persons identified by the Assembly member as Issac, Sakina, Safia, Lydia Baba and Faustina were said to have received gunshots wounds and are currently being treated at the Walewale district hospital.
The Walewale District Commander DSP Sarpong Bempah said no arrest has been made. He said the suspected robbers after failing to rob the vendors disappointingly fired randomly and fled.
DSP Sarpong added that a motorbike suspected to be for the robbers was handed over to the police by some locals. He said the place was calm and investigation has commenced.
