State owned media, Ghana Television embarrassingly goofed in a nationwide reportage that declared that former South African leader, Thabo Mbeki is dead.
The biggest news media based its report on a fake online broadcast on the web, leaving many to doubt their credibility as one of the most credible news sources.
Since GTV aired the story yesterday on their prime time news, a lot of people have expressed disappointment in the state broadcaster’s inability to double check to ensure the credulity of stories before airing them.
This will not be the first time GTV has run with false news on their channel. A couple of years ago, the station granted an extended interview to one Fauster Atta Mensah who posed as the first Ghanaian to have won a Nobel Peace prize for a robotic hand invention among other lies.
This also received trembling backlash from all over the country.
