The Ghana Education Service says it is pleased with the 2016 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results in despite the massive public uproar over the failure rate.
The 2016 edition of the WASSCE results indicates that 1,576 candidates had their subject results cancelled. Also the result showed that majority of the students who sat the exams failed the subjects Maths, English and Social Studies.
But in an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the public relations officer for the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey said statistics show an improvement in this year’s results.
According to him, Ghanaians are only “blowing things out of proportion”. “I don’t know whether they [critics] have the figures to support them ...We are not saying that this is the best results we should have.”
“Last year, we saw a lot of leakages; this year WASSCE; no leakage. But there were a lot of malpractices. So the measures put in place have also made the students bring out their actual knowledge,” he added.
