A South-African woman who snatched Zephany Nurse 19 years ago and raised her as her own, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
A court verdict has finally been announced in the case of the Zephany Nurse kidnapping. Families of both parties were present at the courtroom awaiting the judge's decision.
After the due court process, Zephany's kidnapper was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison, much to the relief of the Nurse family.
Zephany Nurse was born on 27th April 1997 and was taken from the Groote Schur Hosptial on 30th April 1997. She was found in February 2015 when one of her teachers noticed a striking resemblance between her and another girl at the school she attended.
After DNA tests done by the police revealed that Zephany and the other student were actually sisters, the woman who raised Zephany was arrested on kidnapping charges.
There have been bittersweet reactions after the verdict was announced, with Zephany's biological grandmother wishing for a higher sentence and hoping Zephany will be able to develop a bond with her real family. However local reports state that Zephany has no wish to bond with her biological parents and has remained with her kidnapper's husband and family.
