According to President John Dramani Mahama, the opposition New Patriotic Party has been attacking the Electoral Commission out of fear of losing the 2016 General Elections.
John Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the New Democratic Party, says the NPP knows they are running towards an absolute defeat, hence the party's consistent animadversion against the credibility of the EC. The current president was speaking on his campaign tour, which is currently in the Western Region.
He analogized using football to make known his party, NDC's confidence in the 2016 elections and the fear of the opposition NPP.
Mahama's statements follow the recent jabs at the EC by the NPP over some issues including the handling of re-registration of voters deleted from the register and the proposed e-transmission of the results of the elections from the polling stations.
"We in the NDC know we will win, we are very calm and well composed. Because we now we will win this match, we do not care about the ball, the goal post or the pitch," he explained.
President Mahama also reiterated the NDC’s commitment to a tension-free campaign period and election.
"This election is about insults and about unnecessary arguments. It is about peace and you all know that we in the NDC are very peaceful. We are not like others who say all die be die."
“Just like the late Professor Mills said; as for us, we like peace. What we need in this world the most is peace because if you do not have peace, you can have anything. You cannot even have developmental projects,” he added.
