1. Eating the dead

Cannibalism is one of the ways of disposing of the dead bodies. In Brazil and Papua New Guinea that’s how they bury them. Instead of digging a hole in the ground, they would cook and eat the meat of their dead. Scientists think such practices have evolved in the countries, where people had just a few sources of food. So, they did not waste anything edible.

2. Vultures

These birds do the job of burying the dead in nature.  They eat the corpse of the dead animals and prevent rotting, bad smell and speed up the process. So, in Mumbai they use vultures to dispose of the bodies. First, they wash them and then place in special towers. The birds usually come there and wait for food. It’s a part of their Zoroastrian religion.

3. Coffins on the wall

In an old time in China, they used to hang the coffins on the rock wall of high cliffs. They wanted the dead people to be closer up to the sky. The higher the coffins hang, the more respect it showed from their relatives.

4. Strangling of the relatives

In some cultures, they believed that the dead one would be lonely in the after death life. So, they strangled relatives to keep them company. Mostly the ritual was practiced in Fiji. They would solve two problems: kill the wife to keep the man company and get rid of the widows in the community, so they did not have to provide for them.

5. Tree grave

This burial ritual is practiced in Africa. They put the bodies in large baskets and tie them up onto a large tree.  Everyone could see the graves, and it showed the affection and respect of the relatives of the person buried.
