The Ghana police station at the Afram Plains North district of the Eastern region has been set on fire by angry residents.
Five people are in critical condition after being shot in the melee and have since been rushed to the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.
Media reports show that these residents had attacked the police station in a demonstration against the escape of two police officers who escaped prison custody in an operation to rob a GCB Bank bullion van.
The attack follows the evacuation of police personnel at Afram Plains following threats on their lives from furious residents over the operation to rob the bullion van.
Meanwhile, authorities at the Ghana police reveal that efforts to restore peace in the area are underway as investigations into the arson attack begins.
