The police say they will investigate Bishop Daniel Obinim after a video emerged of him beating two teenagers in his church for allegedly having pre-marital sex.
Police director of public affairs Superintendent Cephas Arthur told Accra-based Citi FM on Thursday that the police would obtain a copy of the video and launch an investigation.
"We are in a democratic dispensation. If it’s for the purposes of religion, that one will also be investigated. It will also be by the appropriate authorities and I hope the right things will be done to ensure that human dignity is restored," he said.
In the video which has gone viral on Facebook, Obinim could be seen beating the teenagers – whose names were not immediately known – with what appeared to be a belt.
He accused the girl, as he lashed her, of having sex instead of focusing on work as an apprentice.
Whipping the boy for allegedly impregnating the girl, Obinim questioned how he was going to take of her and the baby since he (the boy) was unemployed.

Obinim is no stranger to controversy. A video had earlier surfaced of him laying hands on the genitals of his male congregants as he ”prayed” for them to have a bigger manhood.
He also angered the public when he claimed to possess the ability to spiritually transform into a snake and bite people.
