Vice President of IMANI Center for Policy and Education, Kofi Bentil has revealed that the founder and general overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim did no wrong by flogging two members of his church who were involved in pre-marital sex.
According to the legal practitioner Bishop Obinim cannot be charged before the law court because the victims allowed him to punish them without any sign of force or violence.
The controversial preacher was captured on a video that has gone viral beating up two members of his church for fornication.
The affair which was uncovered after the woman got pregnant angered Obinim who took the law into his hands in the presence of his congregations.
Several groups have also criticized Obinim for his actions with the Ghana chapter of Amnesty International calling for his arrest. The Minister of Gender, Nana Oye-Lithur has also reported the matter to the Domestic Victims and Violence Support Unit, (DOVVSU) office for further investigation.
But the controversial pastor in his defence said he flogged the two because they were under his welfare.
Mr Kofi Bentil in a Facebook post disagreed with critics of the pastor saying that he had committed no crime whatsoever.
“Bishop Obinim has committed no crime! There’s a principle in law called 'Volenti non fit injuria' google it. It simply means you cannot complain about something you willingly submit to. That is why footballers can’t sue if they are kicked and injured normally during play. They agreed to play, and getting kicked and injured is natural to that sport.”
He further advised however, that Obinim was digging his own grave by saying and admitting the people are his adopted kids.
“That position makes him guilty because the law doesn't allow you to abuse and disgrace your kids! he is better off saying they are just members of his church, that way they cannot complain of something they willingly submitted themselves to!! If you attend that church, you deserve to be whipped!,” he stated.
