We have overtaxed Ghanaians - Terpker confesses

The Finance minister, Seth Terkper, has confessed that Ghanaians have been hit with too many taxes by government.

Seth Terkper, speaking at a press briefing in Accra bemoaned that government failed to ensure that state-owned enterprises and development projects were run well so as to be able to pay for loans taken.

“We have fallen into some bad habit of doing commercial projects and then asking the taxpayer to pay for it.It shouldn’t be the taxpayer, ” Seth Terpker revealed.

The finance minister has therefore indicated that the government had made some corrections to its debt management strategies and had initiated a policy that would ensure that “if we borrow for commercial developments, the projects should pay for the loan.”
