1. Wife swapping
This is done in Namibia in some of its tribes. Best friends can arrange the wife swapping and sleep with another woman not calling it cheating! It’s just a part of their culture, but people talk of rape. If these women do not give their consent to such swapping, it’s a rape!
2. Beating the suitor
It is practiced in Fulani tribe. If two suitors wish to date and marry one girl, they have to battle and beat each other to win her over.
3. Tribal marks
Nigerian Yoruba tribe is the one who used to scar people. There are also two tribes, one in Ethiopia and another one in Sudan, where people do it too.
4. Female circumcision
This is a horrible tradition, when little girls get mutilated in their private parts. Later on when a husband is ready to disvirgin her, his he has to cut her open with the knife. During the circumcision many girls get infected and even die.
5. Killing deformed babies
In Ghana and Benin they used to believe that these kids were possessed by evil spirits and they killed them.
6. Puberty rite
Both men and women have to undergo much pain and suffering to become “adults”. Such practices are common for Africa.
7. Sacrificing humans
Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana and Uganda are among the countries, where they still at times practice such sacrifices to the deities. Thank God, in the most parts the killings are prohibited and unacceptable.
8. Stealing the bride
The guy with his friends first kidnaps the girl to marry her and only then lets her family know about his intentions.
9. Spitting to bless
In Zambia the father spits on his daughter the bride to bless her and wish her all the best.
10. Stretching lips
It is still practiced in Ethiopia by some tribes. They insert large wooden plates into the women’s lips and the one with the biggest plate is deemed to be the prettiest.
