Bishop Daniel Obinim is facing another charge at the National Police Criminal Investigations Department, Accra for allegedly defrauding a man of GHC11.6 million.
Obinim who on Tuesday was earlier charged by the Domestic Victims and Violence Support Unit, (DOVVSU) in Tema with physical and verbal assault after flogging two teenagers in his church for fornication.
After he had been released by the DOVVSU unit in Tema, the CID department at the Police Headquarters whisked him away to begin investigations into the alleged fraud case.
Bishop Obinim was said to have demanded the said amount from a man whose name is not known yet and promised to assist him to collect GHC78,000 from a fetish priest, Okomfo Gyakpata.
But according to ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa Obinim after taking the GHC 11.6 million from the man failed to help him retrieve his money [GHC78 000] from the Okomfo.
“… I must say that we have just commenced investigations into this fraud issue. Now when we are done with this investigations, we will hand him over to our DOVVSU to also investigate the domestic violence issue,” ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa told Accra-based Joy FM.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the founder of the International Godsway Church will spend at least one night in a police cell following his arrest on Tuesday.
He will be kept in the cell overnight and interrogated Wednesday.
