There was no need to handcuff Obinim - Lawyer

Meet controversial pastor and general overseer of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Obinim’s lawyer.

He is none other than the renowned lawyer and Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Hon. Samuel Atta-Kyea.

The opposition Member of Parliament who spoke to Accra-based Class FM said his client had done no wrong to warrant his arrest.

Adding that the preacher went to the police station on his accord. Therefore, there was no need to cuff him.

…What was very sad for me was that the man voluntarily went to the police station, and you handcuff him. You could see today he’s been on the front pages of the Ghanaian Times and the Daily Graphic as if the nation hasn’t got anything serious to discuss," Atta-Akyea said.

He believes that the arrest of Obinim is only a ploy to divert people’s attention from the release of Montie 3 by President Mahama.

It is as if they need this kind of pictures to overshadow the Montie FM issues and I’m embarrassed by it. I don’t think that the nation should stoop that low; we have more serious things to look at, not Obinim’s matters.

Bishop Obinim was arrested Tuesday for defrauding a member of his church of GHC 11.6 million which the latter handed to him to exorcise in prayer. He was transferred to the Nima Police Station after he was detained at the Tema District Police Headquarters.
