Despite attempts to secure a release of Bishop Daniel Obinim from holding on bail, the cleric would be spending his second night in cells today.
The Ghana Police Service failed to grant bail to the founder of International God’s Way Church despite the tireless efforts of his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea to secure his release on Wednesday, 24 August.
His lawyer had earlier indicated that they might go to court to demand bail if the police fail to grant it to them. Speaking to the Accra-based radio station, Citi Fm, Atta Kyea said, "if they [Police] don’t grant him bail we will resort to the court to grant him bail."
The founder and lead pastor of International God's Way Church, Bishop Obinim was whisked away by the police after he reportedly turned himself in to answer to charges of defrauding a gold dealer of GHC11.6 million.
The police are also investigating the Bishop on charges of assault after a video of Obinim flogging two teenagers for sexual misconduct went viral.
A report by Starr FM says the prophet will be in court tomorrow, Thursday, August 25, to answer to complaints against him by the two teenagers he flogged in his church.
