A Facebook user, Blessing Ngozi, who claimed to have witnessed the exchanges said it was a terrifying experience.

"Thank God. I was there yesterday. We mistakenly ran into the open fire between them and the sas/police. I saw myself as a dead person but the God I serve prove Himself faithful."

The development has divided many social media users. While some of them feel that the robbers deserved what they got, others are of the opinion that it is the harsh economic situation in the country that has driven people to become robbers.

"This is not their fault. No one chooses to die like this. I will blame Nigeria government for anything the youth is engaging into nowadays. Frustration is in the land," a Facebooker, Prince Adedapo said.

"When you can't afford to eat even once in a day, what will you do? A hungry man is an angry man," another Facebook user, Elias Valentine, said.
