An Indonesian claiming to be the oldest man on earth has said that he is ready to die, at age 145.
The man called Mbah Gotho, according to to the date on his identity card, was born on December 31, 1870. Officials at the local record office have now confirmed his birth date to be genuine.
He outlived all his 10 siblings and four wives, the last who died in 1988. He is now survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as all his children have also died.
One of Mr Goth's grandsons has said his grandfather had been ready to die since he was 122 years old. He had also prepared a grave near his children's grave. “The gravestone there was made in 1992. That was 24 years ago,” Mr Gotho’s grandson said.
Mr Gotho according to members of his family, now spends most of his time sitting and listening to the radio because his eyesight is too poor to watch television. He has had to be spoon-fed and bathed for the past three months as he has become increasingly frail.
As to whether he will make into the Guinness Book of Records, is yet to be decided as the findings will have to be verified. When he was asked what his secret to his long life was, Mr Gotho said, "the recipe is just patience."
