The deplorable state of roads in the country is now leading to miscarriages in Taha a community in the Sagnarigu District of the Northern region.
According to a Starr News report, at least four expectant mothers have had their pregnancy terminated prematurely after using roads linking the villages to the main business centre in the Tamale metropolis.
Residents in the area brought this to the fore during a communal gathering, stating that the bad roads in the district have increased maternal mortality as well.
The residents also were involved in massive communal labour to repair the damaged roads.
“A lot of women get miscarriages on this road, because of that they are even having problems with their husbands, they think it is their fault. Anytime the pregnant women are being transported to the market on the road with a Motor Kia, it falls and you know the pregnant woman is vulnerable and will get miscarriages. Just last week we had two miscarriages, two broken legs and arms just as the result of this bad road,” a resident said to Starr News.
Residents of Taha, Gbalahi, Kulaa, Bovogu, Gbramani ,Gumani and many communities in the Northern region are cut off from each other due to the bad road network.
Meanwhile, the residents during the communal labour to fix portions of the roads issued a stern warn to the government and DCE that if nothing was done about their roads, they would protest.
They chanted “NO Road, NO VOTE” and vowed to chase out any politician to come to campaign in the area.
