It has long been held that prison is not the end of the road for convicted criminals.
Whereas most people say this to mean that time in prison would be reformative for inmates, this is not the case for 21-year-old Ruth Kamande, who found glory from behind bars.
The Kenyan woman, who stands accused for the September 2015 murder of her boyfriend, Farid Mohammed, was crowned Miss Lang'ata Prison on Wednesday, 31 August, 2016.
Yes! That happened.
Ruth Kamande allegedly stabbed her boyfriend 22 times at their home in Buruburu, Nairobi after he she reportedly found a text message from another woman on her phone.
Though Farid didn't pass from the injuries he sustained, he died while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Ruth Kamande, however, made headlines when she beat 19 other contestants to emerge the ultimate queen in Miss Lang'ata beauty pageant.
The event is meant to support the rehabilitation of female prisoners at the facility.
Talk about dangerous beauty.
