Police at Tesano have arrested a journalist of the Daily Express, Fred Sarpong, for reportedly taking photos of a police officer taking a bribe from a bus driver.
Fred Sarpong's colleague, Raphael Apetorgbor, in an interview with Joy News revealed that the policeman in the full glare of the public extorted money from the bus driver.
According to Raphael, efforts to take pictures of the policeman proved futile when the infuriated policeman walked to Fred Sarpong, assaulted and whisked him off to the Tesano police station.
The unfortunate experience by this journalist brings to light past concerns over the reported cases of bribery scandals that continue to stain the dignity of the Ghana police service.
The current administration of IGP John Kudalor has seen stringent measures put in place as the recent reshuffling of police officers. But how far this move goes to end the culture of bribery remains unknown.
