Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, has projected that his party will win the December elections only if it garners 80 percent of total votes in the Ashanti region.
In an interaction with party executives and parliamentary candidates in the region, Nana Addo appealed for cooperation, peace and unity stating that these virtues were paramount to the party's victory in the general elections.
During the 2012 general elections, Nana Addo failed to hit the 50% plus one mark to win the elections despite doing well in the strongholds of the Ashanti and Eastern regions.
In the Ashanti Region, Akufo-Addo had 70.86% and 56.91% in the Eastern Region, while his biggest contender, President John Mahama, had 28.35% and 40.03 in those regions respectively.
If recent polls are anything to go by Nana Addo could have a brighter chance of defeating President Mahama in the December elections considering the current government's struggle with the economy, energy crisis and cases of corruption.
