Former Ghana and Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien, is contemplating retirement, it has been reported.
The 33-year-old is said to be struggling to find a new club since Panathinaikos released him at the end of last season.
According to a report by ghanasoccernet.com, Essien is hoping to land a deal in the Austrian league but has told close friends that he might retire if the deal falls through.
Essien has been touted as a box-to-box midfielder for his ability to exert energy in supporting offensive and defensive play and for his tough tackling style which has earned him the nickname "The Bison".
He can also play as a defender, both on the right of defence and in the centre.
