Tensions are high in the Brong Ahafo region after machete-wielding men said to belong to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) inflicted wounds on an NPP member.
The shocking development, which is feared to have taken place at Kukuom in the Asunafo South District, has also resulted in a security guard losing his eye in a supposed reprisal attack Thursday dawn that led to the destruction of state property at the assembly and the district electoral commission’s office.
“In fact, it was an eyesore. That was the first day I saw people butchering human being like meat. They butchered the guy seriously,” an eyewitness [name withheld for security reasons] is heard telling 3News.
So far, it remains uncertain what may have caused the fight as unconfirmed reports from the constituency suggest the tension is being fueled by the Brong Ahafo regional minister, Eric Opoku, who is also the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area.
Meanwhile, security personnel has been deployed to the area to restore calm as reports hint of a likely curfew in the conflict-prone zone.
