Ghanaians have no sense of patriotism- Nyaho Tamakloe

Dr, Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, one of the leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that as the country celebrates Founder's Day today, he cannot find a single Ghanaian that could be called a patriot.

Speaking on Class FM this morning, Dr. Tamakloe said that in the previous years, one could find patriotic Ghanaians such as Kwame Nkrumah, Kobina Sekyi, Ako Adjei, Kojo Botsio and K. A Gbedema, as they built the nation and knew the direction to steer the country. However, according to the NPP member, on this day, there is no Ghanaian that can be described in the same vein as patriots, including himself. He said that there was a lot of commitment involved with being a patriot and that there is no Ghanaian that currently levels up to that  title.

According to Dr. Tamakloe, "A patriot will know when enough is enough, that your time is past, [when to] give way to the younger person to come and continue; that is a patriot. A patriot is somebody who will not [fuel] tribal wars and tribal quarrels and I tell you as I sit down now, I don’t believe we have one person we can call a patriot in this country… It is dangerous and it is something that we have been thinking about. But even look at the way people behave on the political terrain…the sort of talk they give to the younger ones and you call such people patriots?"

He further added that a country whose people were constantly on strike could not be called patriotic because such people were dragging the country back. "Where are the patriots in this country?” he asked.
