Today is National Volunteer Day, and, as usual, here are some useful things you can do to make yourself and others feel better.
1. Help clean up your community
2. Donate blood to local blood bank
If you cannot donate yourself, you can organise people to donate.
3. Volunteer at a local library
You can help sort out books and help visitors find the books they want.
4. Support the environment by planting some trees
5. Support the work of a local orphanage
Offer your help with office duties, delivering meals, sorting donations, raffles or street collecting.
6. Help others learn
Teach kids in your area how to read or how to play a musical instrument.
7. Get involved in community events
Attend fetes and festivals in your local area and offer to help to organise the next event.
Spend time with older people, people who are sick or people with a disability, in their homes, in hospitals or in residential care facilities. Give them company and provide a listening ear. Help provide fun and entertainment by playing music, games and other activities.
9. Look close to home
Get to know your neighbours. Offer to put their rubbish bins out when you are putting out your own or even invite them for a meal or drink. You can also host a street or block party.
Happy National Volunteer Day to you!
