President John Dramani Mahama took his time off the 71st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to interact with a cross section of the Ghanaian community in New York in New York.

Narrating developments in Ghana to the diaspora, Mahama revealed that plans are far underway to ensure that plans are far advanced to ensure that the 2016 general elections are devoid of violence.

President Mahama also assured the diaspora that his administration was "operating on a zero government financing" thus predicted an economic growth above eight percent in 2017.

Those in attendance at the reception included executives of the national council of Ghanaian associations, representatives of the Ghanaian clergy, executives of the Yankasa Muslim group, association of Ghanaian lawyers, members of the Ghanaian business community, foreign affairs minister, Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, interior minister Prosper Bani, secretary to the President Ambassador Kwesi Quartey among many others.
