Flooding in Koforidua leaves one dead and more displaced

An elderly woman has been confirmed dead, along with many others displaced in a heavy downpour that has left a major part of Koforidua submerged, on Sunday. A good number of personal properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis was destroyed in the downpour.

Efijuase Asokere and the Abiriwa Junction are among the areas heavily flooded, with Nsukwao being the worst affected area. Residents in the township are calling on the government for help, as many of them have lost most of their possessions.

Flooding in Koforidua leaves one dead and more displaced

An elderly woman died when the taxi she was traveling, along with two other passengers was carried away by the rush of flood waters during the downpour. The Fire service personnel at the scene were said to be unable to swim towards the taxi and had no ropes to throw towards the passengers.

The other two passengers along with the driver of the vehicle were rescued by a resident who braved the waters, and they are currently receiving treatment.
