Ayariga was paid to cough at IEA debate - Kennedy Agyapong

The MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has claimed that Hassan Ayariga, the flagbearer  of the All People’s Congress (APC), was paid to distract Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2012 IEA presidential debate.

“A close confidant of Hassan Ayariga has come out to openly confess this to me that Hassan Ayariga was paid huge sums of money to do that…to cough just to distract Nana Akufo-Addo,” Mr  Agyapong alleged on Accra-based Asempa FM.

Mr Ayariga, who was then the People’s National Convention (PNC) presidential candidate, coughed persistently throughout the debate, mostly when the NPP flagbearer was speaking.

Mr Agypong’s remarks come after Mr Ayariga questioned why at 72, Akufo-Addo was still living in his father’s house.

“At age 72, my senior and my father, Nana Akufo-Addo, is still living in his father’s house. At this age, 72, I would have retired from politics and be advising young men of this country to move this country forward and not contest with them anymore,” he was quoted as saying.

The remark drew condemnation from Mr Agyapong, who described the APC flagbearer as a “fianga boy who sells pizza”.
