Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the minority leader in parliament has called aspiring MPs who lead their campaign with promises, ignorant. His statement comes as the December general elections are fast approaching, and many Parliamentary candidates are staying ahead on their campaign trail.
In an interview with Onua FM, the minority leader claimed that those who have no insight into the work of the members of parliament are the ones making promises during their campaigns. As the 2016 election period approaches, many aspiring parliamentarians have made countless promises pertaining to developmental changes that their tenure will bring.
According to the MP for Suame, in the Ashanti region, members of parliament were not developmental agents but they were rather legislators. He said that it is because these MPs fail to acknowledge this concept, that they fail to fulfill the promises they made.
He disclosed that he did not give promises, but rather urged his electorates to vote for him. While he admitted that the roads in is constituency were in bad shape, he made assurances that he was working to fix the situation. He claimed his salary for the past 20 years would not even be able to afford a one-kilometer road.
