A morning show host from Eastern FM, whose name was only given as Nsempawura, was attacked by some individuals believed to be sympathizers of the NDC in the Suhum constituency in Eastern Region.
The incident took place at the Eastern Regional branch of EC office, at the time the NDC parliamentary hopeful for the constituency Magaret Ansei was filing her nomination forms.
Only last week, unnamed persons believed to be among the youth of the NDC ransacked the EC offices, to which the journalist Nsempawura reported duly. In the wake of this, the constituency executives issued an apology and the district director was transferred, although reasons for the transfer are being kept under wraps.
According to the journalist, his attacker struck in the presence of a police officer, who stood watching while the attack happened. "As part of my work, I monitored the EC’s activities at their office and just when I entered the office, I heard one NDC man saying "is he not the journalist who sits on radio to talk about the Suhum incident . Later, when I sat on a chair one of them started hitting me and threatening my life and so I decided not to mind them till it got serious and I left even when one police officer saw them," he said.
He added that he had reported the incident to the Suhum Police commander. The police have confirmed the incident but are refusing to comment on it at this moment.
