Head of the electoral commission, Charlotte Osei, has revealed that the EC will, in the next 7 days, come out with the list of political parties who are qualified to contest the December general elections.
Charlotte Osei in an interaction with CitiFM reveals that the selection process will be based on the legal eligibility of all 17 presidential candidates who submitted their nomination forms on Friday, September 30.
“For the candidates who have met the requirements, their nominations will be accepted, which will mean they will be on the ballot paper for the December presidential elections,” she said.
The filing of nomination was met with various legal battles as the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) won a court injunction against the collection of the filing fees. The court order to the EC not to collect filing fees is feared to have a chance ruining the December elections as the EC argues that payment of filing fees is needed for names of eligible candidates to be printed on the ballot paper.
