Police investigate duping allegations against top NDC man

The Cape Coast South constituency organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alfred Halm, is reported to have duped a mobile phone dealer after he refused to pay for 50 mobile phone devices he bought for his party's communications.

After threatening to curse the NDC man, the mobile phone dealer, known as Mr. Acquah, got reported to Bakaano district police station where the NDC organizer, Alfred Halm, had filed a complaint.

The mobile phone dealer, who later was granted bail by the Cape Coast South parliamentary candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Arthur Dadzie, had later explained on August 12, 2016, Mr Halm and the regional communication officer of the NDC, Kwesi Dawood, approached him that they wanted to buy 50 pieces of mobile phones and that he should bring the devices to them at a hotel in Cape Coast.

Mr. Acquah then submitted the phones, comprising 30 pieces of ZTE Zmax and 20 pieces of HTC M7, totaling GH¢20,000, to them at the hotel and after the two had collected them, he was asked to come for the money the following day because President John Dramani Mahama was in Cape Coast for their national campaign launch at the sports stadium and needed to organize some people to attend the event.

The worried phone dealer stated that the two NDC gurus refused to pick his calls on the day they promised to pay the money, a situation which compelled him to go and inform an assembly-man – who is also a member of the NDC – to talk to his colleagues to pay him the money.

Mr Acquah hinted that the two did not mind the assembly member and so he reported the matter to the Bakaano District police where Mr Halm was invited for questioning and he promised to go and collect some money from the presidency to come and pay for the mobile devices by September 6. Acquah said Mr. Alfred Halm never showed up again at the police station neither did he respond to his calls.

Meanwhile, police say they have mounted an investigation into the development.
