Johnson Asiedu Nketia , the general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denied reports in a section of the media that former President Jerry Rawlings has abandoned the party ahead of the December elections.
Mr Rawlings who was instrumental in helping the NDC win the 2008 elections has been inactive as the party goes up against the NPP in December, prompting questions as to whether he remains committed to the party.
In an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, Mr Nketia said that Mr Rawlings was still committed to the party.
According to him, Mr Rawlings has not been seen on the campaign trail because he was advanced in age and lacked the agility to engage in tough campaigning.
He said the former president, who is also the founder of the NDC, was offering advice to from the sidelines.
