Kintampo police says assasination claims on Mahama are false

The Kintampo divisional police commander, Chief Superintendent Desmond Owusu Boampong, says there was no assassination attempt on President Mahama during his campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo region on Thursday, October.

The report follows the arrest of a young man who is said to have breached the president's security detail with the attempt of killing Mahama during the NDC campaign at New Longoro. Allegations surfaced that upon checks by the police, a short pistol was found in the pocket of the young man.

However, Chief Supt Owusu Boampong in an interview with AccraFM fiercely denied the assassination report stating that the young man rather moved into the area allocated to the press where he was asked to leave.

“Even the security of the president will not allow anybody to get close to the platform – not even all police officers can get close to the president. “I will caution the general public to be circumspect with what they write on social media,” he insisted.

President Mahama is currently in the Brong Ahafo region canvassing for votes ahead of the presidential election which is barely 60 days away.
