The Electoral Commission (EC) has directed aspirants for this year’s election to pay their GHC50,000 filing fees by Monday.
It comes after an Accra High Court on Friday dismissed an injunction suit filed by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in protest against the filing fee, which the party considered outrageous.
The injunction prevented the EC from collecting the fees from the candidates when they submitted their nomination forms last week.
Now, with the court case out of the way, the commission is moving to collect the fees as the December 7 date nears.
“All nominated candidates for the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections are hereby advised to submit the banker’s draft in respect of their filing fees to the Electoral Commission not later than 12:00 noon on Monday October 10, 2016,” the EC said in a statement.
