The editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has said that there are too many "jokers" participating in the electoral process in Ghana.
His remarks follow the filing of nomination papers by 17 presidential candidates ahead of the December elections.
The development raises the possibility of having 17 names on the ballot paper on election day.
Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM on Saturday, Mr Baako said many of the candidates would crumble in the face of critical scrutiny of their policies.
“They are too many, too many jokers out there,” he said.
He said although jokes help to relieve stress, too much of them amounts to a waste of time.
“Democracy has room for jokers but not at the expense of serious things,” he said.
