Former President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills was the third president of Ghana in the 4th republic. He is the first Ghanaian head of state to die in office. He passed on in July 2012, months to the end of his first tenure in office a president.
President John Dramani Mahama Ghana’s current president coincidentally was vice to John Mills.
YEN.com.gh is highlighting three reasons why in our view President John Mahama is just like late John Mills.
The first point is that both presidents are humble and peace loving people. John Mills was referred to as the “asomdwehene” meaning “king of peace”. John Mahama unsurprisingly is also an “asomdwehene”.
During his time, Mills failed to fight the corruption canker in his government and was tagged by his opponents as a corrupt government. It was during his steward that Ghana paid 51 million Ghana cedis to Alfred Woyome for no work done. In his tenure, John Mahama has also failed to crack the whip on corruption in his government. There are tens of instances of corrupt practices in his administration. An example is the Smarttys “bus-branding” saga, where the company involved over-charged government for work done whiles state officials failed to do due diligence.
Lastly, just like President Mills, John Dramamine Mahama also gave a chance to qualified young persons to be state ministers.
