On Tuesday night in Accra, the police had to intervene once again as clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed at Odododiodio.
According to reports, the conflicts started when the brother of the late Nii Ayi Kwei Mankatah, he former NDC member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency took offense to a song supposedly composed against him by an NPP supporter. One eye witness who narrated the incident said that if care is not taken, the situation could happens again on Saturday.
“A rally was held at Odododiodoo by the NDC and after the rally they were moving round when the NPP supporters stared hooting at them at Blue gate- an NPP stronghold- the NDC also hooted back and they exchanged words and everyone went their way but later on some NDC machomen returned to the place and attacked the NPP at the place.
It took the intervention of the Police to restore peace in the area and no one was injured but this Saturday the NPP aspirant in the area is going to launch his campaign and if security is not beefed up at the place, i'm afraid something bad might happen,” the witness said.
The clash is currently being investigated by the James Town Police unit.
