The Electoral Commission shocked Ghanaians when they disqualified 13 out of the 17 prospective presidential candidates in the 2016 General Elections.
Many reactions on social media hailed the electoral commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei, for her stern decision on the disqualifications. But, even as many people were praising her for "sanctifying" the electoral process in Ghana, some couldn't see further beyond the unexpected disqualification of a strong contender, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.
We asked the YEN community which of the top 5 disqualified lot they would petition the EC to bring back, and as suspected, they had very strong comments.
Most people explicitly called out the EC for the disqualification of Nduom;
...and some people actually asked that Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom be allowed to stand for the position of president of Ghana.
And some people wouldn't love to be left with just a choice between the incumbent National Democratic Congress and the largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party.
Seriously, they couldn't...
A significant number of members of the YEN community also suggested foul play on the part of the EC.
Some people were quick to point out that, despite their wishes that Papa Kwesi Nduom would be given a go at the contest, they understood that the laws of the land had to be applied to their full extent.
The case was rather different for the likes of Akua Donkor, Hassan Ayariga and Nana Konadu Rawlings.
This user believed that Ayariga didn't possess the "looks" of an Assembly Man, not to talk of a president.
Another person believed that Akua Donkor and Hassan Ayariga should have been removed from the race in the beginning.
Despite the various different views, a singular notion seems to form where people agreed with the stern ruling on the EC but were of the view that some disqualified members like Papa Kwesi Nduom should be given another chance.
