The Electoral Commission has disqualified 24 parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region from contesting the December elections.
The commission provided various explanations for the disqualifications.s A total of 240 aspirants from 12 political parties filed to contest the 47 parliamentary seats in the region, according to a report by graphic.com.gh.
The National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party each presented 47 candidates while 19 independent candidates also applied.
The moves comes two days after the electoral commission disqualified 13 presidential candidates, including Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Hassan Ayariga of the All People's Party (APC) , Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party(NDP) and Edward Mahama of the People's National Convention (PNC), from contesting the December elections.
Mr Ayariga of the APC was so angered by the EC's decision that he insulted the commision chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei.
