Some people love money; others consider them to be evil. Regardless of your position, let’s find out what money is and who created it.
What is money?
Some people use gold or silver, others use paper money. But what is the essence of it? Well, in reality money is just an idea! It’s not tangible! Whether you are using dollars, naira or other currencies, it’s just paper. What differs this paper from the toilet paper?
The idea in our heads! We assign value to paper money and trade it for our time, skills, efforts, goods, etc. But if you are left alone in desert, would money feed you or provide any good? No! Money works only in communities, where there are other people able to share your idea of value!
So, who created money?
Surely, it’s manmade, but where does the idea come from? Some would say it comes from the devil and they would be wrong. Here is what the Bible says:“And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.” (Genesis 2:12)
God created gold and considered it to be GOOD. Gold stands behind the idea of value and money! That’s what most countries measure their paper money against – their gold deposits. So, it turns out that God created money, the idea of it and people only used it for the economic purposes.
But how about this verse?
“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10)
It talks about evil, but… money is not evil, but our attitude towards it is or can be! LOVE of money is evil, but not the money itself. You can use money to build a church, to feed the poor or pay for medicine and save lives. You can use money for education and many other great purposes.
