The summit is expected to focus on issues of maritime insecurity, preservation of marine life, the sea as a factor for development, regional and international cooperation to safeguard maritime safety.

The conference follows Ghana's protracted maritime dispute with Ivory Coast - a development which has seen both countries engage in a legal tussle at the International Tribunal for Maritime Disputes.
