Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings is one politician who is noted for challenging and daring people to “swear” before the shrine, i.e "Nana Antoa Nyamaa" at Kumasi.
He believes that the only true way to ascertain the truth and innocence is to go before the shrine or deity to swear. According to President Rawlings, it's easier to lie before the courts or any other authority.
So YEN.com.gh is looking at four instances were the Rawlings challenged people to the shrine.
- We all recollect at the National Reconciliation Committee (NRC) sittings; he once suggested being taken before "Nana Antoa Nyamaa" at Kumasi Antoa, to ascertain the truth of his claim to innocence, regarding his accusation of having a hand in the murder of the three Accra High Court judges and the Army major.
- Mr Rawlings is alleged to have recently challenged the disqualified Presidential candidate of the GCPP Dr. Henry Lartey to the shrine over a matter.
- Jerry John Rawlings dared President John Agyekum Kufuor to come along with him to the shrine to prove his innocence or otherwise, in the mysterious deaths of some 34 women shortly before the 2000 polls.
- And finally the former president, while engaged in a misunderstanding with his number two person, the late Vice President Kow Arkaah, he asked him to join him at the shrine of 'Antoa' to unravel the truth.
