The legislator has taken a swipe at the President.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region Hon. Benjamin Kofi Ayeh claims the disqualified All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer Hassan Ayariga would have been a more serious president than John Dramani Mahama.
Hon. Ben Ayeh was reacting to President Mahama’s recent challenge to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo to engage him in a debate.
According to the NPP MP, no serious candidate would debate President Mahama at this crucial time of the campaign.
Hon. Ayeh said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer could not be taken seriously in view of his statement that only former presidents could criticise his stewardship as well as his party’s refusal to attend the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) debate.
The lawmaker also claims President Mahama is yearning to debate Nana Akufo-Addo because he wants to shore up his waning popularity.
During his campaign tour of the Volta Region days ago, the President had called for a debate to deal with some purported untruth the opposition leader was peddling on his campaign trail.
