Living in Ghana comes with its own forms of unique to specific kinds of people and what they wear, how they look or speak. It's especially hard for people who wear glasses due to the age-old nicknames and teasing they go through.
These are the struggles anyone who wears glasses would experience in Ghana:
1. You're called 'four eyes'. Even though you clearly have only two eyes, this is your official nickname in Ghana. It sometimes became the only name you were associated by, everywhere you went, the name 'four eyes' followed.
2. Everyone assumes you know everything. Wearing glasses automatically meant you are the smartest person in the room and trust it is extremely frustrating. Even if it's not your field of study, there is the assumption that you would know.
3. People just spontaneously take off your glasses to see how different you look. This is a very common and annoying struggle every person who wears glasses has to experience. Somehow people just always want to see how different you'd look without your glasses without caring about whether you can or cannot see.
4. People constantly ask whether your glasses are medicated or for fashion. I mean really? Who goes around wearing spectacles as fashion if they are not actually medicated.
