These comments come after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. John Kudalor, reaffirmed that there will be a ban on social media, should the need arise. Saying, "At one stage I said that if it becomes critical on the eve and also on the Election Day, we shall block all social media as other countries have done. We’re thinking about it," comments he repeated at a meeting with Muslim leaders on Monday, 24th October.

The Interior Minister was adamant at the Meet The Press event that there will not be a ban, stating that, "Social media will not be banned at any point in time, not even on election day."
