Funerals are the last time we get to say a few kind words to the people we've lost. It's supposed to be solemn, quit and a time to reflect. But not in Ghana. Oh no, here we love to celebrate. Immense amounts of money are spent on funerals.
It is no surprise to see people really dress up and go all out when they are heading to funerals. These are the reasons why funerals are always lit Ghanaian occasions:
1. There's always an after-service party. After the funeral service and trip to the cemetry, the tears are wiped, the gospel music is switched to Hiplife and the boogie down begins.
2. Funeral Jollof is the best ever. No lie! Any one who has been to a couple of funerals will attest to this. The best Jollof rice is served at funerals.
3. There is always some drama. There will never not be some form of entertainment at the funeral; from sympathizers fighting over drinks being shared or the overly dramatic mourners, a Ghanaian funeral is definitely never boring.
4. It's a never ending fashion show. Need new ideas for your outfits? Go to a funeral, the designs are all there.
