NDC MP accused of distributing coffin for votes

Abubakari Ibrahim Dey, the Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency, has been accused of sharing coffins in order to induce people to vote for him in the upcoming election.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials in the constituency say Mr Dey has already shared at least 10 coffins to some Muslim communities in the constituency, according to a report by kasapafmonline.com.

The NPP officials described the move as desperate attempt by the MP to keep power, the report said.

It added that the officials plan to organise a Quran recitation to neutralise the effect of the MP’s action, which they believe has spiritual implications.

“Spiritually we are also seeing how we are going to counter that but we believe that If you want to help a mosque there are so many deteriorated mosques in town which needs speakers, some cannot pay their bills and you come and supply this kind of items to the mosques; it doesn’t actually speak well,” one NPP official was quoted as saying.

NDC activists in the constituency have, however, denied that the coffins were meant to secure votes.

According to them, the MP merely donated them to Muslim communities that had requested assistance.
