2016 Presidential candidates John D. Mahama of the NDC, and Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP have both declined to participate in the IEA's presiential debates scheduled to begin on November 8th for separate reasons.
According to NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party's flag-bearer, John D. Mahama, will not be taking part in the IEA presidential debates because the party has branded the IEA as being politically biased.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia went on to say that the NDC was willing to patch up the party's relationship with the IEA, but only after the December general elections...not before.
While according to NPP Deputy Communications Director, Anthony Karbo, Nana Akufo-Addo will equally not be taking part in the IEA debates. Speaking to Onua FM's Bright Kwesi Asemba, Mr. Karbo said, "Asempa, let us tell Ghanaians what we have for them than media debate. Nana will not go to any debate; if President Mahama wants to debate he should debate with Ghanaians."
Meanwhile, General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has alluded to that the NDC is will be willing to take part in the presidential debates being organized by national broadcaster, GBC.
